MOUNTING OF A BEARING:

Tilting of bearings has vital importance in attaining it's calculated life and satisfactory services. Therefore, careful attention must be paid while mounting and dismounting the bearings. Any bearings designed properly and manufactured accurately may fail immediately due to the miss-alignment.

In order to mount the inner ring with more ease, the seat and fillet of the shaft must be cleaned and oiled. Care should be taken to see that the bearing is seated squarely on the shaft and pressure is exerted only on the inner ring and never on the outer ring.

A hammer should never be used on the bearing for fitting purpose. Most preferred way is the use of a tube length and a wooden mallet for the mounting.

In case of the larger size bearings. Bearing is heated in oil bath at the temperature of 70 degree to 80 degree (176 f). When bearing has reached the required degree of temperature, inner ring should be slipped over the shaft and held against the shaft shoulder until it has cast.

While mounting the bearing into the housings, see that it stands aurally into the housing bore and pressure is exerted only against the outer ring and never against the inner ring.

While removing the bearing from shaft, avoid pressure upon the outer ring and through balls and shaft seats or shoulders are not damaged. It is advisable to make use of bearing puller for this purpose. Use of odd implements may damage the bearing.
